For over 40 years, Woodwell science has informed decisions made by governments, communities, and international institutions confronting a changing climate. Increasingly, we are working to ensure science is informing decisions made by private sector partners in business too. Our core mission is to put rigorous, independent climate science into the hands of decision-makers, and today, many of those decision-makers sit in the private sector.

Scientists first, not a data vendor

We are scientists first, not a data vendor. Woodwell provides more than data or a risk score. Our partners work directly with the scientists who design the analysis, develop the models, and interpret the findings. Methods we use in partnership arrangements are also published and peer-reviewed for public and policy audiences, so our data, assumptions, and models are documented and open to scrutiny.

    Seasonal and sub-seasonal forecasting

    Anticipate climate conditions at seasonal timescales ahead with regional or asset-level outlooks for drought, precipitation, and related hazards, downscaled to specific regions and/or assets.

    Climate vulnerability and impact assessment

    For funds holding real assets over long time horizons (e.g., timberland, agriculture, infrastructure, real estate), rigorously measure climate hazard, likelihood, severity, and how it shifts, and translate that hazard into impact on revenue, operations, and asset value. We leverage our proprietary climate risk platform to model hazard at the asset and portfolio level across multiple warming scenarios, then our scientists translate what that hazard means for revenue, operations and asset value.

    Technical due diligence

    For investors evaluating climate technology companies, verify whether a company's underlying scientific or technological claims hold up, checking the methodology, data, and real-world evidence

    Downscaling

    Translate coarse, global-scale climate model output into high-resolution, location-specific projections for organizations building climate data products, tools, or platforms that current data cannot support
